Prada’s Spring 2009 runway show was full of fish and cave prints as Milan Fashion Week started yesterday with the whole city buzzing about the event since there was runway footage on huge screens all around the city.Primitivism and back to what women really want is the major theme of the whole of Prada’s Spring 2009 collection. Many fashion who’s who are seated on the front row on not your usual chairs you see on a typical New York Fashion Week. It was one big production design where guests sat on curving shelves of some sort and fish prints are all over the runway. The show was opened up by 16-yr old Dutch model Ymre Stiekema who was their Fall 2008 ‘face’ for Linea Rossa campaign. The collection was full of crumpled fabrics, some bras exposed, asymmetrical cuts mostly in the colors of bronze, off white, black, tobacco, and gold plus some flashes of red and maroon. Cave and fish prints are used on some of the clothes, which refer to the primitive concept that Mrs. Prada went for.Accessories were very minimal but the shoes sort of stole the attention of the crowd but not in the good way. Almost half of the models were having difficulty walking and one even slipped in the runway. Well, blame it on the fish prints, although, the real culprit were the super high platform shoes. do not think anybody now will want to order them. It is okay to be adventurous, get more abstract or get crazy but shoes are meant for walking. While it is a fact, that some women do bleed for fashion but they need to be functional as well.
